Celebration
Quilts 2001, an exhibition of 29 quilts, is the major project
of Canberra Quilters Inc to celebrate the Centenary of Federation.
Exhibition Background
Canberra Quilters issued an invitation to Australian quiltmakers
to make quilts portraying an aspect of Australian life
historical, political, social, environmental over the
past 100 years.
A panel of three jurors selected 27 quilts for the exhibition
which also includes invitational quilts by two of the jurors.
The third juror was the Director of Canberra Museum and Gallery,
which was the venue for the exhibition held from 24 February
to 29 April 2001.
Snapshots of Australia
This exhibition presents for the viewer a series of snapshots
of Australia since 1901. Some are simple in design and construction,
some are very complex, but they all have layers of meaning for
the viewer to delight in discovering.
Whether the quilts refer to personal memories or national events,
recognition of our past or hopes for our future, they speak
thoughtfully to us as Australians. They tell us not only about
quiltmaking today, but also about ourselves and our countrys
near past.
We hope you will enjoy Celebration Quilts 2001.

This project is made possible through a Federation Community

the Commonwealth Government's support with this grant.
