The pioneer women of the early 1900s lived, raised families and worked in inhospitable outback mining townships.
This quilt remembers and celebrates their presence at the Mt Cuthbert copper mine in NW Queensland. Little or no sanitation, flies and incredible heat were part of their daily lives. Their spirit lives on and today women in modern mining camps enjoy the comforts of air conditioning, running water, modern transport and communication.
