Cloak PAMELA FITZSIMONS, MT VINCENT, NSW Silk and linen fabrics; silk threads; wool batting. Plant dyeing, machine piecing, hand stitching. 85 cm H x 76 cm W This piece refers to an early form of Australian patchwork the possum skin cloak and the skin rugs which continued to be made up until the 1930s. Silks, dyed with eucalyptus leaves and pieced together, produce a surface reminiscent of the sandstone walls of my house. The stitching process records the passing of time and echoes the cycles of nature. |
